BeaverCraft LS5P1 Wood Carving Strop Wood Carving Gouge Hook Knife Sharpening Honing Tools Strop Stropping Kit Leather Paddle Strop Spoon Carving Tools Sharpening Kit Sharpener with Polishing Compound
$ 7.24
This strop was reasonably priced, but it has a few issues:1) A unique design, but the strop does NOT work with the “BeaverCraft Wood Carving Hook Knife SK1 for Carving Spoons”. The hook on the knife is just to long and curves back way too much (the radius is not too small) to fit on this strop. I ground-down some of the tip (which I was unlikely to use anyway) and made it fit this strop.BTW, the “tutorial” (instructions) that comes with the strop is worthless. It applies more to stropping flat blades, not spoon/hook knives or gouges.2) The stropping compound is very waxy and gummy. It works OK but is very messy and requires extensive cleaning off the knife when done. Not an easy task with a curved razor blade such as this. I like my other extra-fine green strop medium better.3) The wooden sandpaper keeper-sticks are very roughly cut (right off the saw blade), and too large to fit the slot on the strop when you try to attach the sandpaper. This was relatively easily remedied by planing-down or sanding the sticks to fit the groove with the sandpaper attached.4) The knife is what some would call “sharp” out of the box, but, IMO, not sharp enough to put to use in my shop.Overall, you can make it work with the “BeaverCraft Wood Carving Hook Knife SK1”, but not without modifications.
